Best Fingerpicking Patterns for Beginners
I’m going to show you one of the MOST COMMON fingerpicking patterns for beginners. This fingerpicking pattern is feature in songs like Everybody Hurts, Hallelujah and many many more.
Now this fingerpicking pattern won’t work for every single song and that’s because it is designed for songs that in 6/8 time. Meaning the songs have a waltz feel of a sway to them. In the next lesson in this series, I will teach you a fingerpicking patterns more commonly used in 4/4 time that should cover all other songs.

Why I like this fingerpicking patterns for beginners is because it can easily be adapted to popular music. It’s not super technical but it sounds really nice. If you have not worked on your fingerpicking dexterity too much, I highly recommend you start at lesson 1 of this series.
In the video lesson below, I will show you how to apply this fingerpicking pattern to 4 string chords (think D major), 5 string chords (think C major and Am) and finally 6 string chords (think G and F). The great thing about this pattern is that is it super repetitive.
Once you feel like you have a good feel for this pattern, try a song like Hallelujah or Silent Night to put it into practice.
