In this fingerpicking guitar lesson for beginners, we are going to be developing two very important skills – the fingerpicking pluck and walkdowns.
Now, hopefully you have watched my previous lesson on the Plucking Technique. If not, you can watch that lesson here.

Lesson #5: Pluck Patterns & Walkdowns
Now if you haven’t watched the earlier lessons in this series, I highly recommend downloading the coursebook that comes with this mini-series so you have all the links and TABs to all of the lessons.
If you are not familiar with the pluck technique, I would definitely watch Lesson #4 to learn more about it. The pluck is featured in songs like Blackbird and Dust in the Wind. It’s one of the most commonly used techniques in fingerpicking, so you definitely want to get it down pat.

When practicing this technique, I would focus on one chord at a time. Master the pluck for each chord, then try putting them together in a chord progression. Remember, chord progressions are what we used to play songs but there’s no sense if using them if we can’t play the chord by themselves.
Once you have conquered this lesson on plucks and walkdowns, check out my next fingerpicking lesson where we will put everything we have learned together into a nice song.
